Reforms to the parole system won’t fix the problems highlighted by the John Worboys scandal, according to the lawyer who successfully challenged the rapist’s release.
Under the reforms announced today, victims will be able to challenge decisions to release the most serious criminals without having to resort to court battles.
Harriet Wistrich, who acted for two of Worboys’ victims in the judicial review of his release, expressed concern that victims would be left to oppose decisions without receiving legal advice, with their objections considered by civil servants.
