Controversial ‘consent forms’ used in rape and sexual offences cases withdrawn by the police

The National Police Chiefs Council are withdrawing the current digital data extraction forms controversially used in rape and sexual offence cases. The announcement follows a legal challenge brought by CWJ last year which argued that the use of these forms was unlawful, discriminatory and led to excessive and intrusive disclosure requests.

A national coalition of women’s organisations, the End Violence Against Women Coalition (EVAW), represented by the Centre for Women’s Justice, was today (17 March) refused permission to bring a full judicial review challenge against the CPS which alleged the CPS had changed its policy and practice on decision-making in rape cases.
